Of early Christian origin, the Cathedral was rebuilt several times. The dome was designed by Andrea Palladio together with the north side portal and the Almeric Chapel. The current appearance of the Cathedral dates back to the mid-fifteenth century and the Gothic facade is attributed to Domenico da Venezia (sixteenth century). Inside the church has a single nave. The cathedral was restored in the post-war period to repair the serious damage suffered by the American bombing in 1944.
