The Palazzo del Capitaniato, by Andrea Palladio started in 1556 is also called Loggia Bernarda, by the Venetian captain Giovanni Battista Bernardo to whom it is dedicated. The work, stopped in 1572, actually left the building unfinished, with the construction of only three spans instead of the five (or seven) originally planned. Some proposals of continuation of the building, moreover without continuation, were concretely advanced in the 30s of the XX century. Historical headquarters of the power of the Serenissima, today the Palazzo del Capitanio is the seat of the city council. Since 1994, the Palace has been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, testifying to its beauty and its historical and artistic value.
