Few people know that the Civic Museum of Bassano del Grappa is one of the oldest in Veneto. The Museum is located in the former convent of the Church of San Francesco and was built at the behest of the naturalist Giambattista Brocchi in 1828. Today the museum is divided into several sections. The lapidary section collects finds from the Bassano area and is placed in the seventeenth-century cloister, the archaeological section instead collects the artifacts of Greek and Italian production donated by the Chini Collection.

Also on the ground floor there is also the Protohistoric Collection which preserves findings dating back to the Lombard age. On the first floor, instead, there is the collection dedicated to Da Ponte as well as to other works attributed to Francesco il Giovane, Leandro and Girolamo. The Pinacoteca holds in total more than 500 paintings ranging from the thirteenth to the twentieth century, more than two thousand draws by Andrea Palladio as well as sketches, plaster casts, an epistolary and a series of monochromes. A special section is dedicated.
