This imposing architectural fragment, which stands out with its strong evidence along the southern side of Piazza Castello, constitutes the realized portion of a grandiose Palladian project left unfinished. There is very little information on this work, but it is certain that Palladio's project came after 1570, as it is not published in his treatise; this conclusion is also confirmed by the fact that the client, Alessandro Porto, inherited from his father the family properties located in Piazza Castello only in 1571.
