PUNTO BELVEDERE: PONTE DEI VOLTONI

You are now on the Ponte dei Voltoni, a vantage point from which to admire the city of Peschiera del Garda. Built by the Venetian Republic in the sixteenth century, it connects the two completely fortified islands that make up the historic center of the town and rises above the Canale di Mezzo, one of the four canals that surround the fortress of Peschiera del Garda. From this vantage point you can see, immediately to your right, the Palleria, munitions depot in the Hapsburg period and, immediately after, the Official Pavilions, also built during the Hapsburg domination. On the left side of the Canale di Mezzo stands the inhabited center of Peschiera del Garda, with Piazza Ferdinando di Savoia, renovated in 2017. In front of us you can see the Ponte San Giovanni, originally built in wood, which marks the end of Lake Garda and the beginning of the Mincio River.
